Newsmax - Roberts: Scene at State of Union 'Very Troubling'
This next little quote is from the Heritage Foundation and was in my inbox today. I add this only because I disagree with the headline. I think it is Very intended:
An individual mandate with disastrous unintended consequences. To expand coverage, the bill includes guaranteed issue of coverage combined with an individual mandate. However, rather than encourage “young invincibles” to carry insurance, the mandate, which would be less expensive than insurance coverage, would create incentives for young and healthy adults to pay the penalty rather than buy and carry a costly health plan. This would destabilize the insurance market by reducing the spread of risk, leaving the elderly and sickly in insurance risk pools. Premiums would thus skyrocket — further discouraging healthy individuals from obtaining care. This was an article in which they were diagnosing the consequences of the senate healthcare bill passing. I'm not at all sure that the consequences are 'unintended.' I think they intend to run private insurers out of business. I think they plan for the government to be in complete control.
But enough of that. I'm sure you're all aware the census is upon us. I guess we should be receiving our forms in the next few days. A couple of young guys, out of work for almost a year now, well--they own their own business, but it is very dependent on the construction of new homes. They've done very little business in the past twelve months.
Anyway, they went to take the "test" to be a census-worker. Identification was to be by passport, driver's license or social security card. He said one guy showed up with his prison release records, and they let him in. The test was supposed to start at 11:30, and at 12:15 they were still letting brothers start the test. Nothing unusual there, of course. He said there were 28 questions, and thirty minutes to complete the test.
I don't remember any of the questions, but the ones he talked about, which he considered hard, sounded rather inane for a test of that nature...but I'm not in government.
When my form comes, I'll fill in name, rank and serial number. Nothing more.
Hope you the best with acorn.
Later
